Guidelines for Submission

First of all, thank you for looking at www.craiggilmore.co.uk as a possible home for your work.  Displaying your fiction on the site is a big privilege for us.  In order to facilitate a quick turnaround on getting fiction up on the  website, would all would-be authors please take note of the following  guidelines before submitting fiction.

These are only very, very basic guidelines but they do save many hours of work which means we can get the fiction up quickly and you and the other fans can read the work without having to wait for us to finish editing etc

 1. Please take a few moments to put your work though a spell-checker.
This saves a lot of time and gives the work a much more professional  finish.  After using the spell-checker please read through your work again.  Typos can also be correctly spelt words used in the wrong context, i.e. There and their is a very common one.

 2. Format.
Please use single line spacing for paragraphs and double line spacing for  speech.  (Have a look at some of the stories already on the site, for examples.)

For consistency's sake please keep to the following list:-

Two spaces after full stops in a sentence.

Use double quotes to indicate speech.

Please use a separate line for different people’s speech.

 3. Beta reading.
If possible ask someone who has seen the characters to read the story  through and point out any inconsistencies/out of character behaviour/ or  plot holes.
If you haven't anyone around who can do this for you, leave the fiction  for  a couple of days and read through it again, carefully.  You will be far  more aware of the above types of errors.

Alternatively you can take advantage of the pool of beta readers we have on site.  For further information on these individuals please click here

Even after a beta read, please, re-read your own work.  After fresh eyes have looked it over and you have re-edited, other typos and errors may have crept into the work.

4. Due to the many, many hours some pieces of work, in the past, have taken to get into a reasonable state to be uploaded to the site, there is now a new editorial policy in place.

The editor(s) will correct up to ten errors; whether they be grammar, punctuation or spelling.  Once the quota of ten errors per piece of work has been filled then the work will be emailed back to the author for further correction, or, if the author is happy for his/her work to be seen at less than it's best, it may be uploaded as is.

Again, many thanks for your interest in the site and we look forward to reading  your wonderful fiction submissions in the future.
